A.N. (Abdallah) Nour El Din, MSc.

Profile

Abdallah is a PhD researcher at the Energy and Industry group at the Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management. He holds a B.E. in mechanical engineering from the American University of Beirut, Lebanon and a M.Sc. in Sustainable Energy Technology from Delft University of Technology.

Research

For better integration of variable renewable energy resources, energy systems are expected to exhibit flexibility on different time scales. The chemical industry presents a huge potential for large-scale energy storage via electrochemical production of hydrogen gas and hydrocarbons. Abdallah’s project, part of RELEASE - an NWO study on large-scale energy storage systems, aims at studying the feasibility of embedding these processes in the chemical industry. An appropriate representation of flexible chemical processes in the energy system models is essential for assessing the economic viability and identifying the technical requirements for different chemical conversion routes.
