B. (Baiba) Pudane
Profile
Dr. Baiba Pudāne is an assistant professor at the Transport and Logistics section, department of Engineering Systems and Services since 2021. She defended her PhD (2021, cum laude) on the topic ‘Time Use and Travel Behaviour with Automated Vehicles’ under the supervision of Prof. Caspar Chorus and dr. Sander van Cranenburgh in the same group. Her prior educational background is in Transport and Logistics (postgraduate, from TUM Asia in Singapore) and Mathematics and Statistics (undergraduate, from University of Latvia).
Research
During her PhD, Baiba studied how automated vehicles may influence their users’ travel behaviour and how travel may become more intertwined with daily activity behaviour due to new and enhanced non-driving activities that may become available during travel. This closer link between travel and other daily activities motivated development of several models that describe possible evolution of daily time use and related travel decisions (such as departure time choice) in an automated vehicle era. Model development in her thesis was supported by both qualitative as well as quantitative empirical analyses.
Baiba’s current research interests are in various transport innovations (including but not limited to automated vehicles), their impact on travel and other behaviours, and resulting changes in transport systems – such as congestion patterns, vehicle kilometres travelled, modal shifts. She is interested in modelling such changes in small microeconomic settings. In addition, she maintains interest in time use models and empirics as well as bounded rationality.
Baiba’s PhD research was part of the project STAD: Spatial and Transport Impacts of Automated Vehicles, funded by the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO). For more information, visit http://stad.tudelft.nl/
