In Conversation With

In Conversation With, created by Deepesh Toshniwal and led by Marieke Kootte, is the accompanying interview series of the Numerical Analysis seminars. The goal of the interviews is to introduce the guests in an informal way and to share lessons learned during their career to current PhD students.

In the run-up to each seminar, PhD-student Marieke Kootte interviews the guest speaker about his or her research, career, and personal life.

Victorita Dolean

"I’m very fond of problem solving: I couldn’t imagine myself without this on a daily basis."

Stefanie Elgeti

"My advice to PhD students is to have fun: If something works, then go home and enjoy it."
Jennifer Scott

Jennifer Scott

“Go out, just try, and take advantage of opportunities when you can”

Xavier Claeys

“While I was learning how to program, I started to discover the beauty of numerical analysis”

Gianluigi Rozza

“Don’t forget to smile and approach academia with a sense of humour about yourself”

In conversation with Timo Betcke

“As a PhD student, you should try not to worry too much: It should be all about you having some fun research.”
