Evacuation behavior analyzed using discrete choice theory
In a combined research of the TU Delft and UC Berkeley the behavior of evacuees of Hurricane Irma was modelled and analyzed empirically using a variety of choice models, estimated on actual evacuation choice data.

New software for the design of robust stated choice experiments
TU Delft researcher Sander van Cranenburgh, in collaboration with researchers from the University of Sydney, has developed an upgrade for leading software package Ngene. Ngene is used by researchers and professionals to design stated choice experiments. Such experiments are used to gain insight into how people weigh up various aspects when making a choice, for example travel time and travel costs. This software upgrade makes it possible to design statistically accurate choice experiments for so-called regret models, a choice behaviour model developed at Delft.

TU Delft Campus living lab for autonomous driving
Along the Leeghwaterstraat on TU Delft Campus masts are currently being erected to monitor bicycle and car traffic. This will turn this part of the campus into a living lab for research into the behavior of cyclists and autonomous driving.

Human-robot symbiosis improves interaction
Semi-automated vehicles on our motorways, a mobile robot arm that can effectively intervene in a disaster area, drones: these are all examples of robots that exist our unpredictable environment. These robots cannot manage without human intervention, however: behind every successful robot there’s a human being. A strong foundation for operating robot arms and robot vehicles is haptics: our innate ability to feel our body.
