Self-defense has been practiced for thousands of years, giving rise to various styles across the world. For instance, there's Japanese Karate and Jiujitsu (from which Judo originated), Korean Taekwondo, Chinese Kungfu, Israeli Krav Maga, and Russian Sambo. These styles have served as traditions, sports, elements of military training, or practical self-defense techniques. However, the fundamental principles underlying most of these styles are quite similar. Understanding these basics is a solid starting point whether you're interested in learning self-defense as a sport or wish to learn how to protect yourself against potential danger.

During this ticket hour, you'll be introduced to the concept of self-defense through light ("touch") contact. We'll cover fundamental techniques such as movement, falling, striking, kicking, grappling, and escaping. This will give you a clear overview of what self-defense involves. Moreover, this will provide you with a solid foundation should you wish to specialize in a different self-defense style later on.

The class will commence with a warm-up session that includes dynamic stretching and partner exercises. Following that, we'll delve into individual techniques and practice scenarios in pairs. The class will conclude with a cool-down period, featuring light-contact sparring and/or practice with punching bags.
