Participate in the ‘Open Textbook in a Day’ workshop

08 maart 2018 00:00 - Locatie: TU Delft TeachingLab | Zet in mijn agenda

The TU Delft Library is hosting a workshop, in collaboration with OC Focus and ITAV, to fully facilitate TU Delft teachers in publishing their first “open textbook”: an online textbook with an appropriate copyright licence that allows it to be used freely by teachers, students and anyone else who is interested.

This one-day workshop will introduce the participants to Open Education and cover all the aspects of the publication process: content preparation, content creation/conversion and publishing.

At the end of the day, each participant will have prepared a document that is ready for publishing. After the workshop, you will continue to be able to make full use of all support facilities you are introduced to during the workshop. The TU Library will also assist with the peer review process of the document if required.

Bring your own course content
Bring your own course content to the workshop and convert it to an open textbook. This content may include, but is not limited to a complete syllabus or reader, written text, images, videos and assignments and exercises.

The content must either be your own, or you must have the copyright holder’s permission to use it in your open textbook.

The workshop will take place at the Teaching Lab at TU Delft. The programme will be as follows:

The introduction to the different stages of the publication process includes:

- Converting a document to an Open Textbook
- Copyright-proofing your Open Textbook
- Writing an Open Textbook in Pressbook
- Publishing your Open Textbook

After the introduction, you will start with preparing and converting the material to produce the Open Textbook. We will keep track of the progress on a central board, showing the different stages of publication, including the conditions for completing each stage.

Our specialists will be in the Teaching Lab during the day to assist and inform. They are fully equipped to deal with any issue you might encounter during any of the stages. There will be hourly progress updates and an open discussion about the workshop proceedings during lunch.

All the facilities have been tested in preparation for this workshop; should an unforeseen problem present itself, we can immediately assign one of our specialists to fix it.

We are committed to do all in our power to help you get your Open Textbook published by the end of the afternoon – so that we can raise our glasses together to celebrate your achievement at the end of the day.
