The Berlage Keynotes: In Another Light by GROSS.MAX.
GROSS.MAX., founded in 1995 by partners Bridget Baines and Eelco Hooftman, is widely regarded as one of the few United Kingdom-based exponents of a new generation of contemporary European landscape architecture. In recent years GROSS.MAX. has won numerous competition designs for public squares in London, such as Lyric Square, Potters Field Park, and Brixton Central Square. Their work outside of the United Kingdom includes the design of the 200-hectare site of Zaha Hadid Architects’s BMW plant in Leipzig, the external landscape of a new High Speed Railway Station on the outskirts of Naples, and a master plan for the former docklands of Bilbao’s Nervion river. Bridget Baines and Eelco Hooftman are both visiting professors at the Harvard Graduate School for Design.
The Berlage Keynotes is an ongoing lecture series featuring internationally prominent architects, designers, and thinkers who are at the forefront of design discourse and innovation. A selection of speakers working from different disciplinary perspectives and in different geographic, cultural, and political contexts present how their work engages with contemporary issues and debates. This fall semester, speakers include MONADNOCK, Formafantasma, Lowie Vermeersch, GROSS.MAX., Matilde Cassani, HArquitectes, Kayoko Ota, and Annette Gigon.
