Iryna Rybak: Interface conditions for arbitrary flows in Stokes-Darcy systems

Existing coupling conditions for free-flow and porous-medium systems (Stokes-Darcy problem) are applicable only for uni-directional flows which are parallel or perpendicular to the fluid-porous interface.

In this talk, a new set of coupling conditions valid for arbitrary flow directions will be presented. These conditions have been  derived using the theory of homogenization and validated numerically against pore-scale resolved models. The advantages of the new conditions over the classical ones will be demonstrated.
