The main idea of this thesis is to implement control algorithms for the MMC-based AWG in the OPAL-RT simulator. The control algorithms namely Phase-Shifted Carrier (PSC) and Nearest Level Control (NLC) modulation were analysed in the CPU and FPGA of the OPAL-RT target for the accuracy of gate pulses generated and to obtain higher fundamental frequencies. Furthermore, a PR controller was designed in the discretized domain and validated in real-time to obtain zero steady-state error and bring the undesirable lower order harmonics within the tolerance limits.
