Delivering a carbon-free urban energy system in the Netherlands in 2050 faces multiple challenges, which calls for the active involvement of house owners and stakeholders across many sectors. In nearly all faculties of TU Delft relevant research is being carried out, from in-depth technical research via integrated approaches connecting all expertise to assessment methods needed for decision making.

The Urban Energy Institute was established to serve as a catalyst for collaboration and debate between scientists and students and between TU Delft and businesses, government agencies and politicians on the major research challenges that need to be addressed to achieve a carbon free energy systems. We have categorized these challenges along 6 intertwined themes, covering the building, neighborhood, district, and city scales, and involving multiple disciplines.

  2. Fast transition of the existing building stock
  3. Thermal urban energy systems
  4. Solar Urban
  5. Smart monitoring, management & control
  6. Transforming cities

In the webinar we will give on overview on research project we are working on, our main finding and challenges.
