Optical coherence tomography as a tool for quantitative rheology

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is an imaging technique most known for its ability for imaging thin layered structures such as the retina or the skin. However, in recent times OCT also has been proven to be a valuable tool for product process control. Not only does OCT have a capability for structural and Doppler flow imaging, it also has the capability of performing rheology measurements on the micrometer scale. In this talk I will present our work on quantitative fluid rheology. I will show that OCT is tool for quantification of particle diffusion, omnidirectional flow, particle-particle interactions, drying dynamics, and fluid composition. These properties can be quantified with good accuracy, at high speed, and inside turbid media, thereby demonstrating the great promise for OCT as a tool for quantitative rheology.
