Delft AI Lab Lunch with AIFluids & Delft AI Energy Lab

15 december 2022 12:00 t/m 13:30 - Locatie: Mondai House of AI (@NEXT Delft, Molengraaffsingel 8) | Zet in mijn agenda

During this AI Lab Lunch the AIFluids Lab and the Delft AI Energy Lab will present themselves and their latest developments. The AIFluids Lab is about AI and fluid mechanics: for better planes and wind farms. They focus on two major challenges of fluid mechanics: predicting and controlling complex, unstable and turbulent  flows. They want to combine human and machine insights to get to the essence of complex physical flows, be it in air, water or other media. The Delft AI Energy Lab is the place to be for AI for sustainable, reliable and effective energy systems. Energy systems are the backbone of our modern society. It is of great importance that these systems are sustainable, reliable and effective now and in the future. The team at this lab investigates how new AI-based methods can contribute to the management of dynamic energy systems.

About AIFluids Lab

AI and fluid mechanics: for better planes and wind farms

Designing more efficient aircraft and wind farms, requires a deeper understanding of complex flows. In the AIFluids Lab, we will focus on two  major challenges of fluid mechanics: predicting and controlling complex, unstable and turbulent flows.

New experimental techniques and high-fidelity flow simulations  will provide big data. Using AI algorithms,  the AIFluids Lab will use this big data to build explanatory models of transition and turbulence. We want to combine human and machine insights to get to the essence of complex physical flows, be it in air, water or other media.

This research will lead to models that can be used to design more efficient aircraft and wind farms. It will also allow us to train our AI algorithms so that they can autonomously control sensors and actuators to manage complex flows and improve aerodynamic performance.

About Delft AI Energy Lab

AI for sustainable, reliable and effective energy systems

Energy systems are the backbone of our modern society. It is of great importance that these systems are sustainable, reliable and effective now and in the future. There is strong expertise in this field on the TU Delft campus. The Delft AI Energy Lab investigates how new AI-based methods can contribute to the management of dynamic energy systems.

Therefore we combine groundbreaking machine learning with the reliable theory of the physical energy system. For example, it is possible with the AI technique 'neural networks' to model differential equations describing dynamics in areas such as fluid dynamics, and for predicting extreme, rare events. Delft AI Energy Lab investigates these promising methods for applicability for monitoring the 'health' of parts of energy systems, and for the early detection of threats.

About the Delft AI Lab Lunch series

The Delft AI Lab Lunch is a monthly meet-up hosted by the TU Delft AI Labs & Talent community at Mondai | House of AI. Every month, two Delft AI Labs present their work and discuss challenges and developments made in their field. During these events, you can participate, learn, make connections, inspire and be inspired by and with the Delft AI Labs. We invite all interested staff and students from TU Delft to join these sessions. Please contact community manager Charlotte Boelens for more information about this series or the TU Delft AI Labs & Talent Programme.

Join this series in 2022 on: 15 September with 3DUU & AI*MAN | 20 October with CHEME AI Lab & D@S Lab | 17 November with CityAI Lab & HERALD | 15 December with AIFluids & Delft AI Energy Lab
