Delft AI Lab Lunch with CityAI Lab & HERALD
17 november 2022 12:00 t/m 13:30 - Locatie: Mondai House of AI (@NEXT Delft, Molengraaffsingel 8) | Zet in mijn agenda
During this AI Lab Lunch the CityAI Lab and HERALD will present themselves and their latest developments. The CityAI Lab is te place where data, AI and behavioural theory come together. Their reseach focusses on unravelling how the urban environment and human behaviour dance a tango. The HERALD Lab is all about Human-aware robust AI for automated driving. They develop novel AI methods that will enable automated driving systems to interact responsibly and robustly with the people around them.
About CityAI Lab
A place where data, AI and behavioural theory come together
Cities are hotspots of human activity that have increased our prosperity, happiness, and health. Yet the future liveability of cities around the world is under pressure as they face major social-technical challenges. Those challenges include crumbling social cohesion, income inequality, overcrowding of public spaces, and unhealthy local environments caused by factors such as heavy traffic and noise pollution. CityAI Lab examines the pivotal role that the urban environment plays in tackling such challenges.
Our research focusses on unravelling how the urban environment and human behaviour dance a tango. It capitalises on advances in machine learning and on the wealth of data available now at a city level. We combine these with established theories on planning and behaviour, hoping to contribute to the development of more attractive and liveable cities.
Human-aware robust AI for automated driving
The advent of autonomous vehicles is one of the most anticipated technological developments of our time. But despite much progress in recent years, highly automated driving systems are still a long way from being able to drive freely on the streets of our cities. A major bottleneck on the road to the many potential benefits of these systems is their ability to share the road safely and efficiently with human-driven cars and pedestrians. This is a very complex issue, in which AI can play a decisive role.
HERALD Lab develops novel AI methods that will enable automated driving systems to interact responsibly and robustly with the people around them. To do this we will combine machine learning, cognitive modelling, control theory and multi-agent simulations. Ultimately, our goal is to lay the groundwork for a new generation of autonomous vehicles that are truly reliable partners for the people around them.
About the Delft AI Lab Lunch series
The Delft AI Lab Lunch is a monthly meet-up hosted by the TU Delft AI Labs & Talent community at Mondai | House of AI. Every month, two Delft AI Labs present their work and discuss challenges and developments made in their field. During these events, you can participate, learn, make connections, inspire and be inspired by and with the Delft AI Labs. We invite all interested staff and students from TU Delft to join these sessions. Please contact community manager Charlotte Boelens for more information about this series or the TU Delft AI Labs & Talent Programme.
Join this series in 2022 on: 15 September with 3DUU & AI*MAN | 20 October with CHEME AI Lab & D@S Lab | 17 November with CityAI Lab & HERALD | 15 December with AIFluids & Delft AI Energy Lab
