Delft AI Lab Lunch with BIO Lab and DI_Lab

16 februari 2023 12:00 t/m 14:00 - Locatie: Mondai House of AI (@NEXT Delft, Molengraaffsingel 8) | Zet in mijn agenda

During this AI Lab Lunch the BIO Lab and the DI_Lab will present themselves and their latest developments. The BIO Lab (Biomedical Intervention Optimization) focuses on improving the training and feedback efficiency of machine learning algorithms by developing novel neural network architecture designing novel artificial neural network architectures and incorporating biologically-inspired neural network models. Newly developed concepts and algorithms will be applied to biomedical imaging problems, notably to optimize tumour irradiation protocols with missing information and making longitudinal super-resolution imaging in vivo possible by limiting irradiation damage. The DI_Lab (Designing Intelligence Lab) is about humans and AI designing the future in dialogue. The overarching goal of the DI_Lab is to identify and design the conditions, methods, and tools for human and artificial intelligence to creatively work together. They split this into the following objectives: Multimodal Processes, Hybrid Intelligence, Creative Modalities and Next-Gen Design Methods.

As an extra bonus to this lab lunch, there is a short introduction of Team Epoch, one of TU Delft's dream teams. Team EPOCH is the Artificial Intelligence Dream Team. They participate in online AI competitions, with teams from all around the world. Recently Team EPOCH finished in 9th place at the CityLearn Challenge. During this competition, they developed an AI model that helped people unlock the full energy potential of their solar panels.

About BIO Lab

Biomedical Intervention Optimisation

Modern machine learning algorithms have achieved unprecedented accuracy in image and video understanding tasks, via pure learning from data. These powerful abilities come at the price of enormous amounts of training data, memory, and computational requirements. Such resources are rarely available to real-time feedback systems in medical intervention and biomedical research.

Experts will join forces in the BIOLab across many fields including computer vision, reinforcement learning, neural architecture, deep learning and computational physics, and biomedical imaging. We will create high-efficiency, real-time, AI-driven feedback and control in biomedical applications. The focus is on improving the efficiency of machine learning algorithms by designing novel artificial neural network architectures, developing new reinforcement learning and generative algorithms, and incorporating biologically inspired neural network models. These newly developed concepts and algorithms will be applied to a wide range of problems in biomedical applications. Examples include optimizing tumour irradiation protocols with missing information, and limiting irradiation damage to delicate living samples in smart microscopy.

About DI_Lab

Humans and AI designing the future in dialogue

At the Designing Intelligence Lab, our overarching goal is to identify and design the conditions, methods, and tools for human and artificial intelligence to creatively work together. We split this into the following objectives:

  • Multimodal Processes. We are pioneering multimodal, multi-party frameworks for data collection and training of new machine learning algorithms to develop real-time analytic methods for social robotics.
  • Hybrid Intelligence. We are creating virtual agents and robots that can meaningfully interact and collaborate with humans over extended periods of time, in a variety of design tasks.
  • Creative Modalities. Using big data, we are generating models correlating design expertise with agency, allowing us to experiment with artificial agency during complex system design processes.
  • Next-Gen Design Methods. We are exploring the form and use of novel design methods to address systemic design problems to create an AI Toolkit.

About the Delft AI Lab Lunch series

The Delft AI Lab Lunch is a monthly meet-up hosted by the TU Delft AI Labs & Talent community at Mondai | House of AI. Every month, two Delft AI Labs present their work and discuss challenges and developments made in their field. During these events, you can participate, learn, make connections, inspire and be inspired by and with the Delft AI Labs. We invite all interested staff and students from TU Delft to join these sessions. Please contact community manager Charlotte Boelens for more information about this series or the TU Delft AI Labs & Talent Programme.

Join this series in 2023 on: 19 January with HIPPO & AI DeMoS Lab | 16 February with BIOLab & DI_Lab | 23 March with MACHINA and SLIMM Lab | 20 April with AiBLE & AiDAPT Lab | Further 2023 dates to be announced
