Symposium and Valedictory Lecture of Prof. dr. de Ridder

9 September 2022  |  9:30 - 18:00  |  TU Delft Aula

After a long and successful academic career at the TU Delft | Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering (IDE), Professor of Informational Ergonomics Huib de Ridder is retiring. To celebrate this important milestone, we cordially invite you to attend a symposium in his honour, as well as his valedictory lecture on 9 September 2022 in the Aula.

Human centered design should always be scientifically informed about human behavior, perception and cognition. In other words: Know whom it concerns in human centered design.

Symposium in honour of Professor de Ridder

Informational Ergonomics: where perception
and cognition meet technology & design

9 September 2022 | 9:30 – 13:30 | TU Delft Aula

In honour of Professor Huib de Ridder, a symposium will take place in the TU Delft Aula from 9:30 – 13:30. During which, five speakers will explore the symposium’s theme, “Informational Ergonomics: where perception and cognition meet technology & design”.

How do humans deal with multisensory, multimodal dynamically changing infoscapes in which they have to continuously come up with (fast) decisions? What does this imply for the traditional human information processing models in which context is often dealt with in a static, more simplistic way? How can one design or augment products, systems and/or services such that human behavioral intelligence is supported in this new context?

Human-centered design in increasingly complex – dynamic contexts need information intake or perceptual intelligence, information processing or cognitive interaction design, and information interaction or interactive media design.

During this symposium we present a selection of work bringing together these aspects, celebrating the past, current and future of informational ergonomics.

Valedictory Lecture by Professor de Ridder

Complexity, Challenge, Control:
Mens in Techniek 20 jaar later

9 September 2022 | 15:00 - 18:00 | TU Delft Aula

After a long and successful academic career at the TU Delft | Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering (IDE), Professor of Informational Ergonomics Huib de Ridder has reached his retirement.

This momentous occasion in Professor de Ridder’s career is preceded by a long list of academic achievements, including heading the ID Department (2002-2006) and leading the HICD Section (1998 – 2015); co-founding the Delft Perceptual Intelligence Lab in 2008; leading numerous research projects, resulting in over twenty PhDs; and teaching courses ranging from complexity driven cognitive ergonomics to persuasive environments.

In addition to his time spent at IDE, Professor de Ridder was also involved in various international and national research collaborations and, for many years, was one of the organisers of the Human Vision & Electronic Imaging Conferences. On 9th of  September, he will treat us to a valedictory lecture full of insights gained and lessons learned.

15:00        Professor Huib de Ridder: "Complexity, Challenge, Control: Mens in Techniek 20 jaar later"

Following Professor de Ridder's lecture there will be a reception.

If you are unable to attend his lecture in person, you can watch this via video live stream.
