Citizen Science, Earth Observation & Deep Learning in Ghana: SAS project

Are you interested in Citizen Science project examples? Would you like to learn more about the challenges associated with Citizen Science and interesting practical ways to overcome them? Join the citizen science lunch on June 6 and hear more about the Schools and Satellites (SaS) project. The SaS project combined Earth observation, Citizen Science and Deep Learning for accurate rainfall information in Ghana. SaS worked with high schools and farmers in northern Ghana to create a Citizen Observatory of daily rainfall monitoring, that became the densest rainfall observation network in the region. While the value of Citizen Science became obvious during the project, there were also challenges that brought many learnings.  

Monica Estebanez Camarena, a researcher at TU Delft Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences, will share more about these challenges and her perspective on Citizen Science during a pandemic with you during this citizen science lunch. Monica led the Schools and Satellites from 2019 to 2021.
