In order to meet the huge increase in demand for good quality higher education, online education will play an important role. Already, millions of learners across the globe are taking advantage of thousands of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs).
Although MOOCs have changed online education with respect to scale and openness, truly novel education technologies are not yet involved. The digital traces learners leave behind when interacting with learning platforms, learning resources and the web in general offer possibilities to adapt the learning environment and the manner of conveying knowledge to individual learners’ abilities and preferences.
DDS unites researchers from various TU Delft faculties to enable high-impact research and experiments concerning online education. Our research aims to design and develop meaningful technology-driven interventions that increase learners’ engagement and success in massive open online learning. These interventions are evaluated in a production system (an actual TU Delft MOOC).
