My name is Marianne Schaaphok, 22 years old and last year I have fininshed by Bachelor Applied Mathematics. This year I started my Masters in Applied Mathematics and I joined Nova Electric Racing, one of the Dreamteams of the TU Delft. At Nova we design and build an electric racing motorcycle to show that using electricity instead of fossil fuels doesn’t mean that you have to give in on power and performance. Each year the Dreamteams start with a new team, we are the 10th Nova team and we will build the 4th generation of the electric motorcycle.
I decided to join one of the Dreamteams because I wanted to apply the skills I learned during my bachelors in practice and because helping to build a racing motorcycle is amazing. Nova does not only give me the opportunity to learn more about designing mathematical models, but also gives the experience of working in an engineering team. My task within the team this year is to design mathematical models that can simulate (aspects of) the bike. Based on the simulations we will hopefully be able to make the best design choices for our bike.
At the beginning of the year the team starts mainly with organizing, cleaning, dividing roles for the team members, making a planning, defining the goals and starting the acquisition. Also we are still recruiting students to complete our team. As soon as the race, in which we want to participate, is approved we will start with the design of the bike.
Coming year we will keep you up to date on our progress and some of the projects we are working on.
