The Cybathlon: Our Challenge by Tristan

At the time of writing, we are on the road with a couple of cars and two big vans completely stuffed:  two exoskeletons, spare parts of pretty much everything and quite literally anything else we figured might come in handy. Our destination? The bionic competition 'The Cybathlon Experience' in Düsseldorf. Here we'll be competing with other exoskeletons in a race with all sorts of obstacles. These obstacles resemble everyday challenges for people in a wheelchair, like going up and down stairs and slopes. Other obstacles include a deep sofa and a rough terrain. The last 1,5 - 2 months we've been practising these obstacles with our pilot. They're definitely not easy and really challenge us to make a better exoskeleton every year. During the race, as one of the Electrical Engineers of the team, I'll be responsible for monitoring the battery and replacing it with a fully charged one, when needed. If all goes well, we'll have some time besides the races to look at the other ongoing races at The Cybathlon. There are also other bionic athletes, for example powered wheelchairs capable of climbing stairs or people with bionic (i.e. robotic) arms. All in all, a lot to look forward to! And as always: if you want to stay up-to-date on our endeavors, checkout our website or our social media.
