Energy Transition

The world is transitioning to renewables, electricity-based technologies, carbon-free and intelligent energy systems. Among others, the UN (United Nations) aims to ensure access to affordable, reliable, and modern energy for all. This raises the need for sustainable energy education on a vast scale and urgently. Scalable (online) education is key in this – it helps in keeping learners up to speed with the developments and major changes in the energy sector and it trains the sector in significantly different technology and engineering skills.

Our energy-related courses and programs bring the benefits of state-of-the-art engineering knowledge and skills to lifelong learners and industry professionals who are interested in facilitating and working in the energy transition.

Energy systems of the future

As the expected future energy system, the portfolio centres around electrical systems. On the one end, electricity must be produced, on the other end, it will be used. Engineering needs for expertise cover production; transport, conversion, and distribution; and end-use of electricity. For all, the energy transition will lead to drastic changes. Production of energy needs to be based on renewable and other low-carbon energy sources. End-use in all sectors will need to be much more efficient with a shift to electricity. The intermediate systems will need to adapt to the new supply and demand situation, and much higher flexibility is required. Furthermore, technology developments initiate changes in energy markets and governance.

TU Delft is committed to equipping professionals to contribute to this fundamental transition and offers knowledge and training to prepare them for these changes.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

Our courses and programs are aligned with several of the UN SDGs. By equipping learners with the necessary knowledge and skills, we aim to accellerate the positive impact individuals and organisations can have on the challenges we collectively face. Our Energy Transition portfolio contributes to the goals below.
