Skills for engineers

Engineering is a vast industry with many specialisations. Nevertheless, there are many skills that are useful right across the entire engineering umbrella. Alongside up-to-date technical knowledge, nowadays, skills in communication, stakeholder management, project management, leadership, business models, decision making, data strategies and ethical responsibility are essential to excel in engineering roles, projects and activities. This is where our targeted courses can help professionals, and engineers in particular.

Engineers make good leaders

Leadership is a key quality in the modern world of engineering. Moreover, engineers have the potential to be good leaders. They are analytical and tech-savvy. They are comfortable with figures. They often have a can-do attitude. However, these characteristics alone are not enough to make engineers effective leaders. This is where training to acquire or strengthen essential leadership skills can make a real difference.

Managing project amidst conflicting interests

Engineers frequently manage teams and must integrate with auxiliary departments while trying to meet deadlines on a budget. Often, when running a project to build a bridge, roads, redesign industry or urban areas – they need to overcome competing interests from several different  parties. Engineers not only have to communicate and manage other engineers. , they will also meet people that do not speak their engineering language, and may well have a different mind-set, values and interests.

Skills at the service of engineers

Through our courses and programs, professionals and especially engineers, can to develop a strong set of applicable skills. These will enable them to feel comfortable in situations that are often ambiguous or uncertain. They learn to translate complexity into clear messages – able to inspire and convince others – finding the common ground and creating consensus.

The courses are designed by engineering lecturers together with professionals to make sure they meet the typical, and relevant, needs of engineers in a variety of contexts.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

Our courses and programs are aligned with several of the UN SDGs. By equipping learners with the necessary knowledge and skills, we aim to accellerate the positive impact individuals and organisations can have on the challenges we collectively face. Our Skills for Engineers portfolio contributes to the goal below.
