Wireless Control of flexible LED Matrix using Bluetooth and Android

Themes: High Tech

Late lab scale demonstration

A TRL is a measure to indicate the matureness of a developing technology. When an innovative idea is discovered it is often not directly suitable for application. Usually such novel idea is subjected to further experimentation, testing and prototyping before it can be implemented. The image below shows how to read TRL’s to categorise the innovative ideas.

Why?

Low cost and low power interactive Flexible LED-Matrix for public information display.

How?

Wireless control of a 32x32 LED matrix using an FPGA board and an Android smartphone. Implementation algorithm in FPGA which includes receiving data from IOIO-OTG board using SPI protocol, store data temporarily in RAMs, Grayscale implementation. Display pictures/animations on LED matrix of size 32x32.

When?

For future work, a commercial product can be designed that is both cheap and rollable for the animated display of construction work on highways. The goal of these rollable LED displays is that they are cheaper and use less energy than the conventional rigid displays. Also, this rollable LED displays can be rapidly removed and set up if needed.
