For the first half year of 2023, the TU Delft Climate Action Programme has granted 9 applications for the Seed Fund. The researchers come from the faculties CEG, TPM and 3ME.

We look back on a successful launch of the white paper “Repair in the Circular Economy”, which took place on 13 November. One hundred and twenty scientists, entrepreneurs, policymakers, administrators, students, and people from repair cafes joined the conversation.

With its seed funding programme, TU Delft Safety & Security Institute aims to increase the joint impact of safety & security research and education at TU Delft. Through a yearly call for proposals, researchers are invited to send in a one-page idea for a project or activity. The idea behind ‘seeding’ is that a small incentivisation (up to 15,000 euros) can make a difference. Ideas must work towards ‘a next step’; something bigger to be achieved with people from different disciplines and have societal relevance. Collaboration with non-academic stakeholders is encouraged. Since the start of the programme, 32 projects have been awarded. Six leading researchers present their funded projects here.

On Thursday 9 November it’s Education Day at the TU Delft. The day includes a packed programme of talks, sessions, and of course the award ceremony for TU Delft Educator of the Year 2023. This year’s IDE nominee is Caroline Kroon. Congratulations Caroline.

De moeizame relatie tussen mens en meeuw maakt dat de meeuwenpopulatie onder druk staat. Een belangrijke oorzaak is de verdwijnende braakliggende grond in de haven van Rotterdam, de thuisbasis van het dier. IO student Joanna van der Leun ontwierp voor de meeuwen een nestje dat je op de daken van havenloodsen kan plaatsen. Dat beschermt hen tegen weer en wind, en houdt ze weg van de stad.

Tijdens Dutch Design Week kan je in de kelder van Area 51 in Eindhoven 8 interactieve installaties ontdekken. De installaties werden ontworpen door Delftse studenten en onderzoekers. Caspar Chorus, decaan van de faculteit Industrieel Ontwerpen: “TU Delft heeft voor het eerst een eigen tentoonstelling op Dutch Design Week. Je vindt er enkele van de coolste projecten die onze designers dit jaar hebben ontworpen.”

The idea that there is such a thing as “creativity”, and that it can be cultivated, is surprisingly recent, as the new book by IDE Lecturer Samuel W. Franklin ‘The Cult of Creativity’ reveals.

The book ‘Mobility | Society - Society Seen through the Lens of Mobility’ will be launched on 23 October at Dutch Design Week. It brings together many experts from diverse disciplines. It offers a variety of insights on the potential that mobility has in shaping the future of society.

Heb je er genoeg van overal dezelfde lampontwerpen te zien? Droom je ervan je eigen, originele lamp te ontwerpen en maken? Van een door jou gekozen materiaal? Dan is er goed nieuws! Het kan nu, dankzij een voormalig IO-student en de opkomst van AI. Ontdek hoe dat zit in deze Student Story.

Wat is een restaurant zonder zijn gasten? Wat is een park zonder mensen die hun hond uitlaten of spelende kinderen? We zijn sociale wezens en gezelligheid is essentieel voor ons welzijn. Maar hoe beoordelen we of mensen uit alle lagen van de bevolking elkaar kunnen ontmoeten op deze openbare plekken? Deze vraag motiveerde Vasileios Milias, PhD Candidate aan TU Delft, faculteit Industrieel Ontwerpen om een mapping tool te ontwerpen die 'co-accessibility' meet.

Jaarlijks worden er 150 miljoen auto-injectors, die bijvoorbeeld bij een hevige allergische reactie gebruikt worden, verbrand na gebruik. daarbij wordt 120.000 ton aan CO2 uitgestoten. Emma Linders, net afgestudeerd aan de faculteit IO, ontwierp een oplossing die de uitstoot met 60% verlaagt. Met de YpsoMate Refill, een herbruikbare noodpen, won ze de James Dyson Award 2023.
