MSc. Beek, E. van

Evert van Beek is a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering. His doctoral research focuses on service- and product innovation for heat pumps in residential buildings. He makes use of qualitative methods to understand users and organisations, and quantitative, data-enabled approaches to uncover preferences and practices. In his research he aims to develop prototypes of products and services that illustrate and test effective ways to address the needs of users and organisations. This work is carried out in the context of the IEBB-project (Integrale Energietransitie Bestaande Bouw) in which a total of 125 partners from academia and industry collaborate to develop affordable and user-friendly renovation concepts for the Dutch housing stock.

Academic Background

Fascinated by the interactions between humans and increasingly complex systems, he previously worked at the Faculty of Social Sciences at KU Leuven and within TU Delft as a researcher and designer. His work contributed to projects on ethical values in human-robot interaction and participatory design of health care systems. He also worked as a lecturer teaching across the entire discipline of interaction design.
