Ir. Boorsma, N.E.

Post-doctoral Researcher
Design for Remanufacturing

Biography

Nina is a PhD researcher in the Design for Sustainability research group, working on the role of remanufacturing in the Circular Economy.

She has been studying the technical solutions for Design for Remanufacturing for large medical equipment during her masters’ graduation at this faculty in 2016. In her PhD, she studies the soft barriers to the implementation of this design strategy at business practices for various product categories, like, professional imaging equipment, car parts and household appliances.

This PhD is part of the EU H2020 ReCiPSS project, aimed at developing large-scale demonstrators for circular manufacturing systems, including case studies from the automotive sector, Robert Bosch GmbH, and from the household appliances sector, Gorenje Gospodinjski Aparati D.D.. Please, refer to this website for more information: www.recipss.eu.

Before starting her PhD, Nina gained experience in different roles. First, she started working in Marketing Communications at a Dutch product design agency, based in Rotterdam. After which she continued at a strategic consultancy, aiming for sustainable growth, based in Amsterdam. One of her assignments here, was to co-manage an EU project, with the aim to developed a vision for the circular economy in the MRDH (metropolitan region of Rotterdam and The Hague) and draft a portfolio of projects supporting this vision. Besides her work at the consultancy, she was a researcher at the TU Delft for two EU funded EIT KIC Raw Materials projects about remanufacturing and lifelong learning for SMEs.

The work she does is motivated by good causes and finding deeper meanings behinds the assignments she gets. She is keen on learning about new subjects and developing new skills, both in team work and for individual assignments. What characterizes the work she has done so far is the creative, conceptual thinking and the complex problem solving, with the end goal to reach sustainable innovations.
