MSc. Chininthorn, P.
Prangnat is a PhD candidate of the Design for Sustainability (DfS) group. She finished her Bachelor’s degree from the faculty of Architecture (ID) King Monkut’s Intsitute of Technology Ladkrabang, Thailand; after that she gained some work experience for 1,5 years in Thailand. Prangnat pursued her further education in Industrial Product Design Engineering (IPD) and earned her Master’s degree from the faculty of IDE, TU Delft.
Her graduation project, subsidised by South Africa Netherlands research Programme on Alternatives in Development (SANPAD), was about mobile aid design for a Deaf patient to communicate with a pharmacist in hospital setting in South Africa. This graduation project brought Prangnat new passion to put more help to Deaf people through research and to pursue her PhD education. After working in Thailand and finding a scholarship from the Higher Education Agency Thailand, Prangnat is now back to the faculty of IDE, TU Delft.
Currently she is working on a project to facilitate an accessible and feasible health knowledge transfer system for Deaf people and health professionals in South Africa with Prof. dr. ir. J.C. Brezet (Han), Prof. dr. ir. J.M.L. van Engelen (Jo), and assistant Prof. dr. ir. J.C. Diehl (Jan Carel) and a multidisciplinary team in South Africa. 'Deaf' with a capital 'D' is a cultural and linguistic group of hearing loss people, who use a sign language as a primary mean in communication. Many South African Deaf people have low literacy, with low reading and writing skills. Huge gaps are there where a Deaf person do not have equal access to accurate health information from reliable sources, e.g. mass media or healthcare facilities, like hearing people do. The knowledge about the accessible and feasible health knowledge transfer system to bridge the gap between accurate health information and Deafness is aimed to be achieved through Prangnat’s research.
