MSc. Costa Junior, J. da
Jairo is a PhD candidate in Design for Sustainability and conducts research on systems design approach and complex societal problems. His research aims to foster designers’ understanding of energy challenges in low-income markets in order to contribute, through design, to solve complex societal problems. Throughout his doctoral research, he worked in multicultural environments and engaged in research and teaching activities in Brazil, Uganda, the Netherlands and China.
Since 2007, he has engaged in research on Design for Sustainability and Development. In 2010, he worked at the Design & Sustainability Research Centre in Brazil, where he collaborated with a major manufacturer of products for water management systems. Together with the manufacturer, he designed innovative and sustainable product-service solutions and obtained a Master’s degree in Design (2012) on the topic Eco-efficient Services in Product-Service Systems. More recently, he worked as Assistant Professor in Product Design and Manufacture at The University of Nottingham Ningbo China, where he also acted as the Course Director of the BEng in Product Design and Manufacture.
