MSc. Gielen, M.A.

Mathieu Gielen is assistant professor of Design for Children’s Play at the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering. Designing for children's play is Mathieu Gielen's specialisation. He is seriously involved in playfulness.

Academic Background

Graduated from the faculty of Industrial Design Engineering, Mathieu Gielen worked as an independent designer for over two decades, specialising in the domain of toys, games, playgrounds and other playful objects. His interests slowly drew him towards academic work. Currently he lectures on design for children's play (toys, playgrounds, games etc), he researches methods for exploring children's worlds of experience and he develops tools and techniques for co-design with children.
