Biography

Anja Carolin Hofmann studied interior architecture (Dipl.-Ing.) at the Coburg University of Applied Sciences and Design Management at the Milanese Domus Academy (M.A.). She did exchange studies at the Universidad La Salle in México City and the Università Politecnico di Milano in Milan. Her diplome thesis – a Porsche Design Hotel concept for Abu Dhabi was written in collaboration with the Porsche Design Group/Porsche Design Studio in Stuttgart and Zell am See, Austria. In her master thesis Anja was researching on future (auto)mobility in urban areas. After this work she was curious to know more about electric cars and their new design potentials.

Since 2011 Anja became an external Ph.D. candidate at the Delft University of Technology being first supervised by Prof. dr. J.A. Buijs and since 2015 by Prof. dr. P. Vink. Within the research work she explores the black-box area of automobile design departments within European OEM’s. Her aim is to find alternative ways in automobile product conception underpinned by user-centred innovations.

After working three years at the Daimler Society and Technology Research Group in Berlin she changed to the Mercedes-Benz Brand Architecture department in Stuttgart, Germany. Anja engages herself in the field of sustainability such as the German Council for Sustainable Development and German sustainability dialogue of the German government.
