Dr. Huysmans, T.

Toon Huysmans is assistant professor of Digital Human Modelling at the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering. His main research interests are anthropometric and bio-mechanical digital human modelling and simulation with a focus on data-driven methods and design tools in the fields of ergonomics, anatomy, and orthopaedics. He has a specific interest in the design of ultra-personalised products and services.

Academic Background

Toon Huysmans (Geel, 1981) received the Master of Science degree in Computer Science in 2003 (magna cum laude). His graduation research concerned diamond cut optimization and was carried out at the Vision Lab of the University of Antwerp in close collaboration with the companies DiamCad and DiamScan. In 2003, he joined the Vision Lab as a PhD student where he enjoyed an IWT scholarship. His doctoral research focused on parameterization and correspondence construction for tubular surfaces and related applications. After his PhD, he became a research leader at the imec-Vision Lab, focusing on grant writing, guiding PhD students, and networking with industry, and as a post-doctoral researcher he did research on statistical shape modeling in ergonomics and orthopedics. As of 2018, he is at the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering of the TU Delft (The Netherlands).
