Liu, Q.

Qiang Liu is a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering, with his main research focusing on the intersection field of shape memory alloy (SMA) systems and interaction design.

His research is to bridge the gap between SMA systems and interaction design by developing phenomenological models and toolkits of the systems for the HCI community. With these models and toolkits, he expects designers can make their shape-changing objects easier and more efficient.

Academic Background

He majored in Industrial Design and received his Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree in China University of Geosciences. For his postgraduate study, he got a Master of Fine Arts degree in Hunan University. In a course project, he learned about smart materials by chance and became interested in the field. This drove him to look for relevant groups working on emerging materials and interaction design.
