Berit Piepgras is a PhD candidate at the department of Industrial Design at Delft University of Technology. She works at the ID StudioLab Mingle on her research project “Transformative Design for Sustainability”, focusing on meaningful public participation and its design processes in sustainable urban developments.
Berit is holding a Master of Architecture from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture in Copenhagen. After moving to the Netherlands, she founded her own architecture office. Here, she facilitated design processes of spatial developments. Working in multidisciplinary settings, she conducted contextual research and developed methods for participatory planning processes, focusing on urban challenges and the interaction between behavior and space.
She co-founded the collective HybridSpace, a studio for research on the interaction between digital, spatial and social matters. Also, Berit was part of the collective De Ontwerptafel, a research and design office for participatory developed spatial strategies.
Furthermore, Berit taught at the TU Delft Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment (Heritage & Architecture and Urbanism).
Berit has worked on participatory and multidisciplinary design research projects concerning urban development and innovation, such as “Participatory City Making”, “Healthy Living LAB Utrecht“, “Agenda Ruimte voor de Stad Den Haag“, and “Clean Air Cities”.
