Biography

Wan Jou, or Lavender in common, is from Taiwan. She has a general interest in the emotional bonds between people. Her master thesis looks into heartbroken issues and tries to tackle this topic from a design approach. Partially benefited from her English background, Lavender is able to integrate a myriad of philosophical and literature textures into her research.

Lavender was a freelancing comic illustrator in her college and master period, in which she self-published around four comic books. She is constantly seeking to impress people by figurative expressing or story telling. These two skills are frequently utilized in her expressing and writing. She wants to give audiences or readers the 'context' of her research, hoping that her deliverables are not some abstruse theories but life related philosophies.

Lavender is currently one of the members in Delft Institute of Positive Design (DIoPD). Instead of using positive enhancers, she addresses an opposite direction towards enhancing subjective well-beings of human. Since looking only at a positive side might risk ignoring the opposite possibilities of negative events. Sometimes negative experiences are great chances for life lessons or meaning making in our mind. So she sets a tone in her doctoral topic, which is:

How to cope with negative loss experiences and further enhance our well-beings?
