ORCID iD: increase your academic visibility

The majority of TU Delft researchers have created an ORCID iD. In addition to this, 2830 researchers have added their ORCID iD to Pure.

You can compare ORCID with ISBN for books, ISSN for journals and DOI for articles and data. It ensures that other research systems and services know who you are.

ORCID iDs simplify and improve the accurate registration of research output. Publishers will know who they are dealing with, in library systems authors will be connected to their publications and affiliations, funding organisations will be able to monitor researchers and their research more efficiently.

ORCID is short for ‘Open Researcher and Contributor iD’. ORCID is a non-profit organization established by a couple of universities and publishers. The TU Delft Library pays an annual fee for maintaining the ORCID database.

Unlike Google Scholar, Academia.edu or ResearchGate, ORCID is not a research profile system. In fact, having and using an ORCID will facilitate the maintenance of researcher profiles that you already have. Think of ORCID like a switch box, connecting systems like Pure, Crossref and Scopus.

I do not have an ORCID yet

Check on orcid.org if your ORCID iD is already registered. If not, you can create your ORCID iD on orid.org/register. If desired you can add information about your affiliation and education, or add other author identifiers like Scopus ID or ResearcherID.

My ORCID iD has not yet been added to Pure

Go to Pure and select ‘Edit profile’. Select ‘Create or Connect your ORCID iD’. You are now redirected to orcid.org. Select ‘Sign in’ and use your personal ORCID account OR your institutional account to log in. Your ORCID iD will now be added to Pure. Select ‘Save’ to store the changes in Pure.

I have not yet authorized Pure to connect to ORCID

In some cases, your ORCID iD has already been added to Pure, but Pure is not yet authorized to export you publications to ORCID. Go to Pure and select ‘Edit profile’. Select ‘Create or Connect your ORCID iD’ and select ‘Proceed’. Sign in to ORCID and select ‘Authorize’ to give permission to connect Pure with ORCID. Select ‘Save’ to store the changes in Pure.

Link to the procedure. Note: the export only runs from Pure to ORCID and not the other way around from ORCID to Pure.
