Propellant grade hydrogen peroxide production and thermo pseudo hypergolicity investigation for dual mode green propulsion system

Hydrogen peroxide has been long used for propulsion within the space sector, however the need of catalysts poses a problem to solve due to its complexity and effect on performance. This work focuses on the feasibility and characterization for decomposing hydrogen peroxide by an innovative manner. To achieve so, production of highly concentrated hydrogen peroxide is researched, which resulted in a patent. Then the decomposition as a monopropellant is analysed experimentally. Subsequently, its combustion with ethanol is tested in the laboratory and recorded under high-speed camera for complete characterization. The results show that the system is pseudo-hypergolic. Additionally, the boosting of performance of the system is researched by means of gelling the fuel. For which tests are performed to characterize the gel. The results show a promising future for a system of dual-mode (mono- and bipropellant) propulsion with highly concentrated hydrogen peroxide.
