High Resolution Methane Retrievals Using the PRISMA Spacecraft
Methane is an import greenhouse gas, but with a short atmospheric lifetime. Monitoring methane from space can help reduce emissions and fight climate change. Recently it has been shown that this can be done using the hyperspectral imager aboard the PRISMA spacecraft. Two methods have been developed in order to perform methane retrievals using data provided by this instrument. A statistical method, called the matched filter and a full inversion of a radiative transfer model. These two methods have been compared, which show that a combination of the two methods result in the capability of PRISMA to detect methane plume emissions from various sources and help in localization and quantifying of these emission sources.
