Photovoltaic Concentrator Cells: Electro-Thermal Modelling And Experimental Analysis

Concentrated Photovoltaic cells (CPV) are a relatively new concept in which sunlight is focussed on a PV cell, thereby increasing the incident irradiation on the PV cell. Irradiation and cell temperature both have large, but conflicting, effects on the performance of CPV systems, and in this thesis a thermo-electrical model is proposed to assess the combined effects of these parameters, based on the concept of detailed balance. This model is extended to a lab environment, where verification tests are performed in different temperature environments. Finally, a novel radiator concept called HiPeR is tested in a temperature controlled setting to test its suitability as radiator in a CPV system
