Faster Low-Thrust Trajectory Design Through Finite Fourier Series
Shape-based methods are powerful tools for low-thrust trajectory design. One of these methods makes use of finite Fourier series. This method has been implemented in TUDAT and a study into the effects of the initialisation strategy on the convergence speed of the algorithm has been done, both in two and in three dimensions. Instead of using a power-based initialisation function to generate the a priori coefficient values, an initialisation function that is based on an exponential function appeared to be much more promising. In two dimensions a decrease in convergence time of 42% has been achieved. In three dimensions however, no better initialisation strategy has been found.
