Dr. Anastasios Vassilopoulos

Senior Scientist EPFL

Dr. Anastasios P. Vassilopoulos Senior Scientist EPFL Anastasios P. Vassilopoulos received the M.S. degree in mechanical engineering and the Ph.D. degree in mechanical and aerospace engineering from the University of Patras, Greece, in 1995 and 2001, respectively. He has spent four years as an assistant professor at the Technological University of Patras, teaching to the first and second year bachelor students the courses of statics and strength of materials. In 2006, he joined the Composite Construction Laboratory, at the Swiss Federal Insitute of Technology (EPFL), Lausanne, Switzerland, where he serves until today as a Senior Scientist (MER) and Lecturer. The main research interest of Anastasios is the investigation and modeling of the fatigue behavior of adhesives, composite materials and structural components, and the development of models and methodologies for the prediction of the fatigue life of such components under variable amplitude loading profiles. His research involves the application of special loading patterns including irregular spectra, interrupted fatigue loading, etc. in order to investigate the creep-fatigue and relaxation-fatigue interaction effects on the fatigue life of polymer composite materials.
