High-Fidelity Analysis Towards Virtual Testing

The demand for high-performance structures and materials in aerospace applications requires increasingly sophisticated analysis. High-fidelity methods are studied; some of them considering computationally-efficient multiscale analysis algorithms that relate the microscopic behaviour to their effective macroscopic response. The methods are applied to structural materials such as composites, as well as to study the thermo-chemo-mechanical performance of a broad range of functional materials, such as thermal-barrier coatings and functionally-graded materials. These high-fidelity validated analysis methods are a fundamental step towards virtual testing.
