For mechanical metamaterials, structure is the dominant factor determining the material properties, not the chemical composition of the constituent materials. In this way, new material structures can be made with counterintuitive properties like a negative Poisson’s ratio or multiple stable states. This project focuses on the rational design of these novel structures using pseudo-rigid body models. The aim is to create a general method for the creation of material structures with tailored mechanical properties.
