First year

First semester (MSc 1)*
Most specialisations (graduation studios) offer an MSc 1 programme. Choose one of the programmes available. The choice of graduation studio in the MSc 3 is independent of the programme followed in the MSc 1, since all MSc 1 programmes have the same course objectives. Students of Architecture may do their full Master course programme at one and the same studio if so desired; they can also switch design studios from MSc 1 to MSc 2, and then again choose a different combined MSc 3 & 4 studio.

Second semester (MSc 2)*
The MSc 2 semester of the Architecture track consists of 5 credits of compulsory courses and 25 credits of electives, of which an approved MSc 2 Architecture design project or a programme at another Dutch or international university. Visit the MSc 2 design projects page for information about the projects including examples of student work or visit the study guide for a full overview of all Architecture approved MSc 2 design projects.

* Please also note that due to the limited capacity of the studios there is no guarantee you can be placed at the studio of your preference.

Second year

During the second year, students choose one of the different graduation studios. Please note that due to the limited capacity of the studios there is no guarantee you can be placed at the studio of your preference.

The programme consists of a graduation studio of two linked semesters. MSc 3 consists primarily of research, in which the subject matter of the course is examined in greater depth. In MSc 4 a design assignment is worked out in detail, either theoretically or in a practical sense. The two semesters comprise a whole in which students develop their design instruments and enhance their skills to make a contribution to architectural design and research in relation to social and technical issues.

Overview of graduation studios

Cross domain graduation studios
Master students Architecture, Urbanism and Building Sciences can, instead of the regular studio’s or graduation themes, choose during their second year for one of the cross domain graduation studios. Students from the Architecture track can choose for:
