Career prospects

The importance of urbanism as an integrating discipline is becoming increasingly apparent and the Netherlands is well known as a leader in this field. Graduates are well placed to work for urban design and planning offices, government authorities and to join research networks in the Netherlands and abroad.

Graduates of the Urbanism Track may be involved in spatial planning, the development of metropolitan development strategies, or urban expansion or redevelopment projects. Some are also involved in small-scale urban design and landscaping.

After graduation

The Urbanism track is one of five specialisation tracks within the Architecture, Urbanism and Building Sciences master programme. On graduation, students receive Master of Science degree in Architecture, Urbanism and Building Sciences (Urbanism track).

With a diploma of the Architecture, Landscape Architecture or Urbanism track you can - after completion of a professional traineeship (beroepservaringperiode) - apply for registration in the Dutch Register of Architects, which allows you to use the protected title of Architect, Landscape Architect or Urban Designer in the Netherlands. The Building Technology and Management in the Built Environment tracks, as well as the Post-master programme The Berlage, do not allow you to register in the Dutch Register of Architects. Read more
