Participating research groups

Signals and Systems is a very vivid field with research institutes closely cooperating with the industry. The laboratories involved in the Msc EE track Signals and Systems are:

Since the Track Electrical Power Engineering is part of the Master Electrical Engineering you can also choose to do your final thesis at the research group of:

  • Electrical Power Processing
  • Intelligent Electrical Power Grids
  • Photovoltaic Materials and Devices
  • Network Architectures and Services
  • Electronic Components,Technology and Materials
  • Electronic Instrumentation
  • Electronics

These laboratories are related to many partners, be it commercial companies, research laboratories and other universities. This has also materialized in externally sponsored professors and other researchers at the laboratories. For students this implies that internships at companies during the two-years programme can be arranged.

Multimedia Signal Processing

The Multimedia Signal Processing research group focusses on three interlocking research themes

  • multimedia information retrieval,
  • signal and information processing and
  • information security and privacy.

The research of the DMIR team aims at providing users with intelligent access to large collections of (web) multimedia content. The SIP team focuses its research on theoretical and algorithmic foundations of (distributed) signal processing in various application contexts, and particularly those involving speech signals. The research of the ISP team addresses short- and long-term theoretical and algorithmic solutions for satisfying the security and privacy needs of individuals, industries and governments.

Circuits and Systems

CAS covers the theory and applications of circuits and systems, signal processing, and VLSI circuit/system design and methodology. One track of activities centers around signal processing for communication and array signal processing, with applications in receiver algorithms for wireless communication, array signal processing (utilizing multiple antennas) for radar and radio astronomy, biomedical applications, etc.

Computational imaging can be viewed as a specialization of array processing: how to make an image out of samples taken with many antennas.

Microwave Sensing, Signals and Systems

The Microwave Sensing, Signals and Systems (MS3) group educates and performs theoretical and experimental research over a complete chain of wireless systems for remote sensing and navigation ranging from electromagnetic waves radiation, propagation and scattering through analogue and digital microwave signal processing to detection, positioning and tracking, navigation, classification and imaging of objects in complex environments.

The research is focused in two areas: microwave wireless systems (both analogue and digital parts) and radar applications (including air-vehicle navigation and synthetic vision).

The group provides two educational trajectories within the Telecom MSc program:

  • Radar and Remote Sensing
  • Avionics.
