Track overview

In the MSc Programme in Mechanical Engineering, you will begin straight away in one of the four tracks. Each track teaches you the basics of mechanical engineering, whether your interest is more in working in the medical sector or on large industrial plants.

The tracks of the Master’s programme Mechanical Engineering have a common part. This consists of 11 ‘core courses’ that are fundamental to Mechanical Engineering. They either build on pre-knowledge from the BSc programme or form a new basis at a MSc level, applicable in multiple tracks. You have to select at least five core courses. Depending on which track you choose, you have to select (a maximum of) three core courses in addition. BioMechanical Design

BioMechanical Design is the design of systems meant for interaction with biological systems (such as the human body), or the design of systems that follow the principles of biological systems (biomimetics). Examples are telemanipulation systems (surgical robots, offshore and space robots). The development and improvement of surgical instruments and aids for surgeons are among the key areas of investigation in the BioMechanical Design (BMD) track.

Energy, Flow & Process Technology

EFPT gives students the technological knowledge and the theoretical, numerical and experimental skills to play an active role in the development of innovative new energy and process technologies. Students study key basic disciplines, including thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, process modelling and simulation, and process equipment design, giving them a sound theoretical basis in both process and energy engineering. Sustainability issues are addressed at all stages of the programme.

High-Tech Engineering

The programme focuses on the fundamentals and design of high-tech systems and scientific instrumentation, with special attention to extreme precision and aspects of miniaturisation.

Multi-Machine Engineering

Reliable systems for transporting and producing goods are cornerstones of modern society. Multi-Machine Engineering (MME) focuses on the sustainable and effective development, design, construction and operation of transport and production systems. Often this includes the integration of different modes of transportation. It also addresses issues as energy supply and conversion for all kinds of mechanical and logistic systems.
