DSBA-USSR (Delft Student Badminton Association)

DSBA-USSR has badminton trainings for every level on Tuesday. We also have monthly social activities.

Welcome at United Shuttles Smashing Right (USSR), the student badminton-association of the TU Delft. Do you want to work out during your student days, and also experience the conviviality of a student association? Then DSBA USSR is the place for you! Take a look on our website to see all the possibilities.

Of course badminton is a very important aspect of our association. Every Tuesday night trainings are provided for all levels. You can also choose to participate in the competition; in a team you play matches against teams from other clubs. The matches usually take place during the weekend, and an extra training is provided for competition players on Thursday night. Besides training and competition, you can also enjoy a lot of freeplay with your X-subscription. Our players also regularly participate in tournaments, we usually go with a large group such that we always have fun!

Apart from being a badminton club, USSR is also a student association. We like to play badminton with each other, but we also enjoy doing other activities together. Every month the SoCo (Social Committee) organizes an activity in which every member can participate if they want. Examples of such activities are a game night, a barbecue, going bouldering or ice-skating, a treasure hunt, midgetgolf, a Christmas dinner, or just drink a beer after the training in the pub of the sports centre. The activities form the perfect platform to get to know one another better and make new friends. We also organize a weekend away each year for all members. We rent a vacation home somewhere in the Netherlands, where a weekend full of activities awaits you. As usual, at night there will be a dropping, and also a nice cold beer will not be missed.

USSR provides badminton trainings on Tuesday night and Thursday night in the SportsCenter of the TU Delft. The training groups are split into four levels: beginner, intermediate, advanced, and expert. Each group has its own timeslot on Tuesday night between 18:30 and 23:00. On Thursday night there is an additional training for competition players from 20:00 until 21:30. If there are free courts available during training, these can be used for free play by members of USSR. Check our website for more information about the training schedule and our trainers.

Besides the trainings you can also participate in competitions. This entails playing weekly matches in a team of four to six players against other teams from different clubs in the region. Against every team in your poule, you play a home match and an away match. During a competition match your team plays eight separate matches, including singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. Playing competition is perfect for showing off your skills learning during the trainings and also to get to know badminton players from other badminton associations. Since 2009 we usually have 4 or 5 USSR teams participating in the spring competition and autumn competition.
