Activities DEWIS

The current board of DEWIS has formulated as mission to advance, attract and retain academic women within the TU Delft. It envisages a university where the culture is open and transparent, with equal opportunities for all academic staff, regardless of their sex. DEWIS supports gender equality, but is also aiming for a more generally inclusive culture, where all scientists feel at home, regardless of their cultural background, sexual preference, age, or physical abilities.

To reach the objective of a gender-diverse TU Delft with equal opportunities for men and women, DEWIS formulated a strategy to organise activities around three themes:

1.    Creating Awareness
This first theme is to create awareness of the gender issue. That means, for example, raising awarenessamong staff of the unconscious biases that exist.

How biased are you: Take the Harvard Implicit Association Test

The Implicit Association Test (IAT) measures the strength of associations between concepts and evaluations or stereotypes to reveal an individual’s hidden or subconscious biases.

Unconscious Bias Test: Test yourself—Project Implicit, Implicit Association Test IAT.

2.    Influencing policy
The second theme is to influence policy. We give solicited and unsolicited advice to the Executive Board and Deans.

3.    Connecting
The third theme is about getting women involved in TU Delft in order to share their experiences and expand their networks. This helps women to build their networks and feel more at home at the University.
