14.15 Lecture Technology in Women's lifecycle
by Caroline Nevejan (TU Delft)
Caroline's research interest is focused on the design of presence, and the design of trust in social interactions between people, organizations and larger social and political structures. Caroline's lecture is about not using the full potential of women's capacity in the developing technological world. Over 80% of professionals in technology are men. To understand why so few women pursue a career in technology the Interdisciplinary Internet Institute of the Open University of Catalonia developed successfully a 'lifecycle approach'. This approach argues that in the different phases of life, women’s attitudes towards technology and women’s capacity to develop a professional career are influenced by factors that differ in specific phases of life. By being aware of possible design interventions in different phases of women's lives, their intellectual, emotional and skillfull contribution to the developing ecological, sociological and technological world can be embraced.

15.35 Lecture Is discrimination required for sustainable development?
by prof.dr. Wubbo Ockels (TU Delft)
Wubbo Ockels is known as an important campaigner for sustainability. In 1985, Wubbo participated in a flight of the Space Shuttle Challenger as a payload specialist on the crew. “Space is not unique, it is the Earth.” Observing the Earth as a Space Ship, Wubbo concluded that the atmosphere is in fact the hull of Spaceship Earth, protecting it from the dangers of space. Humankind needs to act as crewmembers of the Spaceship Earth, and commit itself to put the highest priority to maintain the quality of this ship in general, and of the atmosphere in particular. Wubbo's lecture “Is discrimination required for sustainable development?” will be about the spatial perspective and protecting the Spaceship Earth by deploying women with long-term responsibilities. Wubbo will also speak about NL2050 and its targets.
