Dentistry is privatised in the Netherlands. Dutch dentists (tandartsen) have traditionally worked in their own single-dentist practices. Most of them still do so, although the trend is for practices to become larger to have more than one dentist per practice.
Find and register with a dentist before you need one. Many practices are full and therefore do not accept new patients.
It is usual to have a dental check-up every 6 to 12 months. However, dentistry is not covered by basic healthcare insurance, so check your health insurance policy to see what your dental coverage is.
