The Netherlands faces major tasks. Think of the nitrogen crisis, climate change and realizing the energy transition. The social effects of these tasks are large and will be felt by everyone in the Netherlands. This can lead to widely shared feelings of social unease, hardening of opinions and increased polarization. Because the energy transition and climate issues are profound systemic changes, they also present an opportunity. An opportunity to strengthen the Dutch democracy and active citizen involvement. The key is to create space and capacity for citizens to influence the choices that policy makers make every day. With his presentation, Anatol Itten will share some insights of how a future policy of citizen involvement in the energy transition could look like.
